Im vorliegenden Buch wird eine komplexe erzähltheoretische Analyse der byzantinischen erbaulichen Erzählung angestrebt. Die Textgrundlage bilden sieben Sammlungen von Erzählungen, die vom späten 4. bis zum 10. Jahrhundert verfasst wurden: die Historia monachorum in Aegypto, Palladios‘ Historia Lausiaca, das Daniel-Sketiotes-Dossier, Ioannes Moschos‘ Pratum spirituale, die beiden Sammlungen des Anastasios Sinaites und die Erzählungen des Paulos von Monembasia. Die Analyse wurde vorwiegend von den Methoden der klassischen strukturalistischen Narratologie inspiriert und durch die Erkenntnisse der diachronen Narratologie bereichert. Die einzelnen Kapitel widmen sich der Erzählstruktur und ihrer Entwicklung, den Kategorien des Raumes und der Zeit, sowie den Funktionen des Erzählers, seiner Beziehung zum Autor einerseits und zu den Helden andererseits, und auch dem Wechsel der narrativen Ebenen. Diese mehrseitige Analyse mündet in die Darstellung der Entwicklung der Erzählstrategien in diesem Genre.

Předkládaná monografie si klade za cíl komplexní naratologickou analýzu žánru byzantské hagiografie „vyprávění prospěšného pro duši“. Výchozí korpus textů pro výzkum tvoří sedm sbírek ze 4. až 10. století: Historia monachorum in Aegypto, Palladiova Historia Lausiaca, sbírka vyprávění spojených se jménem otce Daniela ze Sketis, Pratum spirituale Ioanna Moscha, dvě sbírky Anastasia Sinajského a příběhy Paula z Monembasie. Analýza využívá zejména metody klasické strukturalistické naratologie obohacené poznatky naratologie diachronní. Jednotlivé kapitoly se věnují struktuře vyprávění a jejímu vývoji, kategoriím prostoru a času a funkcím vypravěče, jeho vztahu k autorovi a hrdinům a práci s narativními rovinami. Zkoumání textů z různých úhlů pohledu ústí do pokusu o nastínění vývoje narativních strategií v žánru.

The aim of this book is to undertake a complex narratological analysis of the Byzantine literary genre of the spiritually beneficial tale. The main corpus of texts constitute seven collections originating from the 4th to the 10th centuries: Historia monachorum in Aegypto, Historia Lausiaca by Palladios, the Daniel Sketiotes Dossier, Pratum spirituale by John Moschos, both collections of Anastasios Sinaites, and the tales by Paulos of Monembasia. The analysis profits in particular from the methods of classical structuralist narratology enriched by the approaches of diachronic narratology. The individual chapters are devoted to the narrative structure of the tales and its development, the categories of space and time, the functions of the narrator, his relation to the author and the heroes, and the shifting of narrative levels. The multiple-strand analysis employed leads to an outline of the development of the narrative strategies in the genre.
