In this time people very often need to read in ordinary life. However, some people can have a huge problem with reading, because they suffer from specific learning disorder - dyslexia. Dyslexia is a complex disorder of reading. It can be manifested by amount of symptoms, mainly by jumping of letters and whole words in the line or various reflections. People can also have problems with continuing of words to the sentences and skipping the line. These symptoms are usually detected in the first year at school. Psychologists, special education teachers and in this time also ophthalmologists and optometrists deal with specific learning disorders. Dyslexia ranks among the complex disorders affected by neural, sensory, psychological causes. However, specific symptoms of its beginning have not been revealed yet. One of the optical causes is a disorder in magnocellular system in thalamus, the part of diencephalon. Eye’s movements play a significant role, mainly saccades which are very important during the reading. Among the possibilities of optical correction of dyslexia we can rank the colour overlays which are put in front of reading text. Other possibilities are the colour filter in the frames or the colour contact lenses. When we put one of this type of filter in front of the eye we change a contrast of the background and a beam path coming into the eye. I would like to deal with the topic of application and using colour overlays in my thesis called The use of colour overlays to compensate of specific learning disorders (Faculty of Medicine of the Masaryk University Brno, department of Optometry and Orthoptics, supervisor: Mgr. Petr Veselý, DiS. PhD.) I would like to research the influence of using colour overlays to the speed and the fluency of reading. In the poster I would like to present the target of my research, the description of used methods, the measurement so far, acquired results and the future prospects. I would like to work with pupils with dyslexia and with the so called control group, which means pupils without any specific learning disorders. I would like to compare both groups. I would like to add knowledges from some foreign studies about the topic of colour overlays or filters. Some of the studies I would like to compare with the results from my research.
