Anotace
This article provides a snapshot of energy efficiency achievements in the Czech Republic, while placing them within the EU energy and climate policy framework. Besides looking at the improvements through a sector-by-sector prism, the article also summarizes policy trends with the aim of pointing out major constraints which impede ongoing energy efficiency implementation efforts. As the findings reveal, despite the existence of a formal strategy, the Czech Republic is likely to encounter difficulty in implementing the binding EU energy efficiency targets. Measures are sometimes realized in an inconsistent manner, are reconsidered ad hoc, or even fail to some extent. The rapid adoption of ambitious binding goals and continuous tightening of efficiency standards will put additional pressure on the Czech government, which is solely responsible for the implementation of these policies.
