Anotace
Videoconferencing as a part of a language course has become a traditional means to internationalize language teaching at Masaryk University (MU) Language Centre (LC). MU LC team, together with language teachers from Aberystwyth University, Great Britain, developed a teaching methodology and various guides for both teachers intending to use videoconferencing as a part of their course as well as for students who are exposed to the new (videoconferencing) learning situation. In our particular situation, “videoconferencing” involves mainly joint courses, where two geographically distant groups of students meet regularly via a videoconference format. These virtual meetings reflect students’ need for authentic communication and cross-cultural situations as well as students´ future needs as skilled lawyers. The presentation will offer an overview of activities that are successfully used for teaching English for Lawyers via videoconferencing and especially for the practice of negotiating and debating skills, litigations, case study exercises and mock trials. The aim is to show how courses (and students) can benefit from this type of innovative methodology and discuss why we believe this is so.
