The surface mass-balance changes were estimated using the glaciological method based on ablation stake measurements over the seven years period (2009/10–2016/17). Our results indicate a change from surface mass loss that prevailed on James Ross Island during the late 20st century to predominantly positive surface mass balance after 2009/10. We attribute the deceleration of the mass loss and the spatial pattern of surface mass-balance distribution to the snow redistribution by wind on both glaciers rather than to temperature changes.
