Im vorliegenden Aufsatz wird das essayistische Werk von Lukas Bärfuss anhand zweier Essaysammlungen Stil und Moral (2015) und Krieg und Liebe (2018) betrachtet. Herangezogen werden vornehmlich Texte, die auf die Biografie des Autors Rekurs nehmen und eine Antwort auf die drei folgenden Teilfragen suchen: Es wird erstens nach der Bedeutung des Wesens von Literatur für das Privat- sowie Schriftstellerleben des Autors gefragt, zweitens nach der thematischen und motivischen Schnittmengen zwischen seinen fiktionalen und nichtfiktionalen Texten und schließlich drittens nach Bärfuss’ Lektüregewohnheiten der Texte anderer Autoren und ihrer Interpretation. Da ständig Bärfuss’ eigenes Leben thematisiert wird, soll im Folgenden versucht werden herauszufinden, welche Strategien der Selbstdarstellung Lukas Bärfuss heranzieht, um durch Essays sein symbolisches Kapital (Bourdieu) auf dem literarischen Feld zu festigen bzw. fortzuschreiben.

In this paper, the essayistic work of Lukas Bärfuss is examined on the basis of two essay collections Stil und Moral [Style and Morals] (2015) and Krieg und Liebe [War and Love] (2018). The following questions are pointed out: The first question deals with the significance of literature for the private and author’s life, the second one with the thematic and motivic overlaps between his fictional works and non-fictional texts and the third one with Bärfuss’ reading habits of the texts of other writers and their influence on his own literary work. As Bärfuss’ own life is constantly discussed, the emphasis is put on finding out self-presentation strategies of Lukas Bärfuss, in order to consolidate his symbolic capital (Bourdieu) by essays in the literary field.
