The project aims at facilitating a sustainable transport and logistics at the level of manufacturing companies that jointly consolidate freight. Joint consolidation of freight happens through the cooperative usage of transport services or the organization of joint distribution. Cooperation is based on multiparty contracts. Here, manufactures agree to cooperate for a longer time and detect matching opportunities prior to shipment. They can adjust planning of the shipments aiming at cheaper distribution plans and shared transport services. Cooperation facilitates supplying enough cargo to reach vehicles’ capacity. In the long run it also facilitates lower CO2 emission. Such cooperation is possible however if transaction costs connected with contracting are low. This is supposed to be achieved through Smart Contracts defined as agreements existing in the form of software code implemented on the blockchain platform, which ensures the autonomy and self-executive nature of contract terms based on a predetermined set of factors. The aim of the project is to investigate which contractual obligations between cooperating shippers and thereafter shippers concluding a contract with a carrier can operate as a software code having self-executive nature.
