The worshipping of ancestors had been a crucial element in Confucian Ming and Qing dynasty China; however, this, at times, conflicted with the new 'heavenly' teaching brought by the Jesuits. This lecture had been a reflection on the disputes between Dominican and Jesuits on Chinese rites and their bold diverse views on the topic.
