The paper present preliminary results of Season 1 of the archaeohydrological Sint Polje Project SIPO in Northern Oman (Ad-Dakhiliyah Governorate). The research area of Masaryk University (Czech Republic) is a large soil-filled depression (polje) at the vertex of a regional short-cut between Bat and Bahla: the Hayl Al-Aja. Excavation at the sediment-rich site near the village of Sint is expected to contribute to the knowledge of the peopling of the intermontane zone between Jebel Kawr and Jebel Shams. The main goal of the opening season has been to check whether the basin-like feature in karstic terrain indeed has a potential for prehistoric research that focuses on environmental, hydrological and depositional variables. During a survey, six prehistoric lithic sites around the polje have been identified. Archaeological testing at the most extensive SITE 1 has resulted in finding a cache-like concentration of 12 unidirectional blade cores of high-quality chert in all stages of reduction together with bladelets and debitage in 20 cm deep sediment. Concerning all aspects of the chaîne opératoire (raw material selection, reduction strategy, tool utilization) this material differs from the lithic scatter that is found upon the SITE 1 surface. Dating of the site is under way (Late Pleistocene to Early/Mid-Holocene).
