The paper presented partial results of an ongoing project investigating Czech university students' academic writing with focus on building text coherence, namely the so-called theme zone, its patterning and realizations in a corpus of diploma thesis written by students of English at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University. The main findings indicate that Czech students rely on unmarked theme patterns and use frequently textual themes while interpersonal themes expressing stance occur considerably less frequently.

Konferenční příspěvek prezentoval dosavadní výsledky probíhajícího výzkumu, který zkoumá koherenci akademických textů českých univerzitních studentů, konkrétně v rámci tzv. theme zone, její typickou strukturu a možné realizace v korpusu diplomových prací studentů angličtiny na Pedagogické fakultě Masarykovy unieverzity. Výsledky výzkumu naznačují, že studenti častěji používají typickou strukturu theme zone a zejména tzv. textual theme, zatímco interpersonal theme vyjadřující postoj k obsahu se vyskytuje výrazně méně.
