La présente étude se fixe pour objectif de répondre a la question sur l’interprétabilité, l’univocité et l’universalité des gestes des rappeurs. Partant de cinquante vidéoclips de rap (25 en français et 25 en tcheque), un corpus de 136 gestes différents avec plus de 3 000 occurrences est soumis a l’analyse sémiotique. La catégorisation permet de voir que les gestes marquant le battement du rythme sont les plus nombreux (quasi-moitié de toutes les occurrences), suivis d’une riche palette de gestes iconiques (dormir, écouter, énumérer, écrire etc.) et indexicaux (vers soi-meme, l’autre, la caméra etc.). Une nouvelle catégorie de gestes a visées métalinguistique et phatique est proposée pour regrouper les gestes a mi-chemin entre index et icônes par lesquels les rappeurs marquent le début ou la fin de leur performance, organisent leur propos ou montrent leur désir que le message passe vers l’auditeur.

Cílem této studie je odpovědět na otázku týkající se interpretability, jednoznačnosti a univerzálnosti gest raperů. Východiskem se stalo padesát videoklipů z hudebního žánru rap (25 ve francouzštině a 25 v češtině), který tvoří korpus 136 různých gest s více než 3000 výskyty. Ten byl podroben detailní sémiotické analýze, přičemž se ukázalo, že nejpočetnější jsou gesta označující rytmus (téměř polovina všech výskytů), následovalo široké spektrum ikonických gest (spánek, poslech, výčet, psaní atd.) a gest indexových (směrem k sobě, k druhému, ke kameře, atd.). Navrhujeme rovněž novou kategorii gest s metalingvistickou a fatickou funkcí, která by seskupila gesta na pomezí mezi indexem a ikonami, jimiž rapeři označují začátek nebo konec svého vystoupení, organizují jednotlivé části projevu nebo dávají najevo záměr přiblížit sdělení posluchači.

The objective of this study is to answer the question about the interpretability, univocality and universality of rappers’ gestures. Starting from fifty rap videos (25 in French and 25 in Czech), a corpus of 136 different gestures with more than 3,000 occurrences is subjected to semiotic analysis. The categorization shows that gestures marking the beat of the rhythm are the most numerous (almost half of all occurrences), followed by a rich palette of iconic gestures (sleeping, listening, enumerating, writing etc. ) and indexical (pointing to oneself, the other, the camera etc.). A new category of gestures with a metalinguistic and phatic aim is proposed to group gestures halfway between index and icons by which rappers mark the beginning or end of their performance, organize their speech or show their desire for the message to pass to the listener.
