Abstract

El escritor español Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez -de origen venezolano-, aborda en su novela Tarde con campanas (Una tarde con campanas) el tema de la emigración. También trata temas secundarios que se asocian comúnmente con la inmigración, como la delincuencia, la prostitución, la violencia, la xenofobia y el racismo. Sin embargo, el autor no intenta impresionar o conmover al lector. Tampoco abusa de mensajes moralizantes, como suele suceder en relación con el tema de la inmigración. Al contrario, logra evitar el patos, tratando el tema con ingenio y humor, aunque a veces, éste resulta ser demasiado negro. Las peripecias de los personajes principales se representan desde la perspectiva de un niño de seis años, que a menudo no acaba de comprender qué sucede a su alrededor. Gracias a la mirada del ingenuo narrador infantil, el lector puede darse cuenta de la desoladora situación en la que se encuentran los héroes de la novela.

Abstract (in Czech)

Španělský spisovatel Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez, původem z Venezuely, se ve svém románu Odpoledne se zvony (Una tarde con campanas), zabývá tématem emigrace. Pracuje i s vedlejšími tématy, která se s přistěhovalectvím běžně pojí, jako jsou třeba kriminalita, prostituce, násilí, xenofobie či rasismus. Autor se však nesnaží čtenáře prvoplánově dojímat či přímo burcovat, ani do románu nezačleňuje planá moralizující poselství, což v souvislosti právě s problematikou přistěhovalectví bývá velmi časté. Naopak, dokáže se vyvarovat veškerého patosu a téma zpracovává s vtipem a humorem, i když ten je leckdy hodně černý. Osudy hlavních hrdinů jsou líčeny z perspektivy šestiletého dítěte, které mnohdy plně nechápe, co se vlastně kolem něj děje. Příběh však přitom vůbec neztrácí na síle ani na působnosti. Naopak, právě díky pohledu naivního dětského vypravěče si čtenář může plně uvědomit rozsah bezútěšné situace, v níž se hrdinové románu nacházejí.

Abstract (in English)

The Spanish writer Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez, originally from Venezuela, deals with the topic of emigration in his novel Afternoon with Bells (Una tarde con campanas). It also deals with secondary topics that are commonly associated with immigration, such as crime, prostitution, violence, xenophobia and racism. However, the author does not try to impress or directly stir the reader in the first place, nor does he incorporate empty moralizing messages into the novel, which is often very common in connection with the issue of immigration. On the contrary, he manages to avoid all pathos and treats the theme with wit and humor, even though he is sometimes very black. The fates of the main characters are depicted from the perspective of a six-year-old child, who often does not fully understand what is really going on around him. However, the story does not lose its strength or scope at all. On the contrary, thanks to the view of the naive children's narrator, the reader can fully realize the extent of the bleak situation in which the heroes of the novel find themselves.
