TY - CONF ID - 1714540 AU - Srba, Ondřej PY - 2020 TI - The Dungan invasion to Mongolia in the Zakhchin oral tradition KW - oral tradition KW - oral history KW - Dungan revolt KW - transformation of memory KW - Mongolia KW - Zakhchin KW - Altai Uriankhai N2 - The Dungan (Hui) Revolt (1862–1877) showed a grave threat to the Qing rule in Central Asia. The Muslim troops invaded also Northern Mongolia and the Mongols supported the Qing reaction to the revolt. Among Mongolian banners threatened by the incursion was the Zakhchin banner located around the Üyench River. A memory of the Dungan incursion entered the local oral tradition and further evolved through the next generations. This paper will analyse several versions of a narrative about the Dungan (Hui) incursion to the Uliast Valley of Üyench Zakhchin. It will show how a historical event has been reinterpreted to emphasise values important for the tradition bearers. ER -
