Anotace

While political relations between China and Taiwan have been tense, economic and social cooperation in many dimensions has intensified. In the traditional cross-strait studies, from the analytical perspective of liang’an 两岸, the individual political viewpoints of each of these two parts of Taiwan straits have been highlighted. However, in recent years, many new channels of interaction between the mainland and Taiwan have emerged. Studying such cultural and social flows is the aim of the cross-strait studies from the perspective of kua’an 跨岸. In the talk, the perception of one particular group will be brought into this transnational perspective – the changing experience of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. It is a Christian church established in Taiwan, and it is rather specific as, while being a religious entity, it has been extensively active in social and political fields. The church has promoted Taiwanese independence from mainland China. However, their political position is not the whole picture – the church also interacts within contact zones between mainland China and Taiwan. In the talk, first, the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan will be introduced with a focus on its political activism, which can be easily categorised under the cross-strait studies from the liang’an perspective. Then, a different observation from the kua’an perspective will be provided; and at the end, we will answer whether a small group as the Presbyterians can bring a new understanding of cross-strait studies.

Anotace česky

Zatímco politické vztahy mezi Čínou a Tchaj-wanem jsou napjaté, hospodářská a sociální spolupráce se v mnoha ohledech zintenzivnila. V tradičních studiích o průlivu se z analytického hlediska liang'an 两岸 zdůrazňovaly jednotlivé politické pohledy každé z těchto dvou částí Tchajwanského průlivu. V posledních letech se však objevilo mnoho nových kanálů interakce mezi pevninou a Tchaj-wanem. Studium těchto kulturních a sociálních toků je cílem studií o průlivu z pohledu kua'an 跨岸. V přednášce bude do této nadnárodní perspektivy vneseno vnímání jedné konkrétní skupiny - měnící se zkušenosti presbyteriánské církve na Tchaj-wanu. Jedná se o křesťanskou církev založenou na Tchaj-wanu, která je poměrně specifická tím, že ačkoli je náboženským subjektem, je rozsáhle aktivní v sociální a politické oblasti. Církev prosazovala nezávislost Tchaj-wanu na pevninské Číně. Její politický postoj však není celým obrazem - církev působí také v rámci kontaktních zón mezi pevninskou Čínou a Tchaj-wanem. V přednášce bude nejprve představena presbyteriánská církev na Tchaj-wanu se zaměřením na její politický aktivismus, který lze snadno zařadit pod studium cross-strait z pohledu liang'an. Poté bude uveden odlišný postřeh z perspektivy kua'an a na závěr bude zodpovězeno, zda malá skupina jako presbyteriáni může přinést nové chápání studií cross-strait.
