Anotace

Sigismund Huler, in mehreren Quellen auch als Rothirsch bezeichnet, ist ein klassisches Beispiel für einen Höfling, dessen steiler sozialer und wirtschaftlicher Aufstieg zu einem noch steileren und dramatischeren Fall führte. Seine Karriere ist relativ gut bekannt, und daher werden in diesem Beitrag die folgenden Hauptfragen behandelt. Was ermöglichte es Huler, sich im Hofdienst durchzusetzen, und was brachte ihm die Gunst von König Wenzel IV. ein? Wie hat er sein Besitztum erweitert und seinen finanziellen Aufstieg erreicht? Was waren seine Aufgaben als böhmischer Unterkämmerer und wie nutzte er sein Amt? Welche Rolle spielte er in den zeitgenössischen politischen Konflikten von Wenzel IV? Es geht darum herauszufinden, ob seinePersönlichkeit alle Merkmale einer "grauen Eminenz" erfüllt. Sein Name kommt in nicht-bohemikalen Quellen nicht oft vor, und seine Persönlichkeit scheint vor allem für den lokalen Kontext wichtig zu sein. Er gehört zu den so genannten Günstlingen des Königs, aber sein Netzwerk von sozialen und diplomatischen Kontakten war nicht stark genug, um ihn vor dem Tod auf dem Schafott zu bewahren.

Sigismund Huler, also referred to as Red Deer in several sources, is a classic example of a courtier whose steep social and economic rise led to an even steeper and more dramatic fall. His career is relatively well known, and this paper will therefore address the following main questions. What enabled Huler to succeed in court service, and what earned him the favour of King Wenceslas IV? How did he expand his possessions and achieve his financial advancement? What were his duties as Bohemian sub-treasurer and how did he use his office? What role did he play in the contemporary political conflicts of Wenceslas IV? The aim is to find out whether his personality fulfils all the characteristics of a "grey eminence". His name does not appear often in non-Bohemian sources, and his personality seems to be important mainly for the local context. He is one of the king's so-called favourites, but his network of social and diplomatic contacts was not strong enough to save him from death on the scaffold.
