Non-target screening (NTS) is a powerful tool to detect thousands of chemical pollutants with state-of-the-art high- resolution mass spectrometry techniques, which are currently on the market, however, available only in a few laboratories in the Danube River Basin. The goal of the NORMAN / ICPDR interlaboratory study (ILS) on NTS was to train participants from these laboratories on the use of NTS and different analytical tools to be tested and compared. The ILS should demonstrate the practical use of the new analytical techniques in the current regulatory framework to overcome shortcomings of the chemical monitoring in the WFD. The ILS was an opportunity for the participants to use their own laboratory instrumentation, procedures and software in combination with additional open source and open access software tools and web services to perform NTS. The samples were taken with the two large volume solid phase extraction techniques (MAXX LVSPE, HORIZON field sampler) and subjected to liquid-chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) analysis. The samples’ extracts were distributed also to different bioanalytical laboratories to compare the signals obtained by a panel of SOLUTIONS / NORMAN bioassays. ER -
