Abstract

Der vorliegende Beitrag fragt danach, ob und inwiefern sich in österreichischen Erstlesebüchern, die in den langen 1950er-Jahren (ca. 1948-1965) erschienen sind, der spezifische Zeitgeist jener Epoche widerspiegelt. Untersucht werden dabei vier zwischen 1952 und 1958 erschienene Bücher. Jeweils am Beispiel eines Buches wird gezeigt, dass sich darin Vorstellungen von Kinderliteratur bzw. Konstruktionen von Kindheit (1), Erziehungsvorstellungen (2), gesellschaftspolitische Leitbilder (3) sowie politische Mentalitäten (4) widerspiegeln, die für jene Zeit charakteristisch waren. Die Erstlesebücher waren in diesem Sinn zu ihrer Zeit aktuell und können heute als Quelle zur Zeitgeschichte gelesen werden. Als Teil des kulturellen Gedächtnisses sind die hier besprochenen Bücher hingegen eher nicht anzusprechen, weil sie in der öffentlichen Erinnerung heute praktisch nicht mehr präsent sind.

Abstract (in English)

This article examines whether and in what way Austrian reading primers published in the period from 1948 to 1965 (approx.) mirror the specific zeitgeist of this time. For this purpose, four reading primers published in the 1950s are analysed. Drawing on the example of one of the books for each of the following aspects the article dem¬onstrates that the books represent ideas about children’s literature and constructs about childhood (1), educational concepts (2), socio-political goals (3) and political mentalities that were specific for the period examined. In this sense, the reading primers were up to date at their time. Nowadays, they can be read as a source of contemporary history. However, as there is no communal remembrance of these books, they can rather not be considered as part of cultural memory.
