Anotace
V originále
Ravenna, which preserved one of the most unique ensembles of late antique monuments in Europe, in the first half of the 19th century was cut off from the main itineraries of the Grand Tour. Consequently, only few people went to Ravenna in this period, and even fewer left some descriptions of the city and its monuments. However, in parallel with the general improvement of transports and communications following the political unification of Italy – as well as with the development of the Byzantine studies – the medieval heritage of the city was subject to a newly found interest. The aim of the paper is thus to analyse this production in order to intercept the continuities and discontinuities in the evolution of the perception of the Ravennate byzantine heritage during the 19th century by part of the western travellers. Finally, the present paper is one of the outcomes of the long-standing collaborative research between the authors on the topic of the evolution of the perception of Ravenna in the 19th century, which will result in the publication of a book (2023).
