TY - CONF ID - 1860098 AU - Malý, Tomáš PY - 2022 TI - The Eighteenth-Century Coronations of Miraculous Images as a Stage of Power and Representation KW - Coronations of images;18th century;lower clergy;social representation UR - https://histfolk.elte.hu/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Program_Lower-clergy.pdf N2 - Historians and art historians have so far interpreted early modern coronations of miraculous images both as expressions of the religious and artistic culture of Baroque and as demonstrations of the Catholic church and state power. As such, the coronations should have mirrored not only the power ambitions of Roman Catholicism, but also, for example, specific state-backed, Habsburg piety (Pietas austriaca) or power representations of magnates. Using several examples of the afore-mentioned coronations, I go behind these interpretations and think about the role of all participants within these events, especially of parish priests, members of religious orders and local brotherhoods. I consider their opportunities in respect of organization and representation in the individual phases of the rites and ceremonies. ER -
