This chapter explains how the design and shape of the Ximen residence are presented in the novel Jin Ping Mei, and how they can be made intelligible to readers from a different cultural background living centuries later. It is possible to sketch the rough layout of the mansion, although the information in the novel is incomplete, it is possible to reconstruct a tentative layout of the house and the garden, and note how they interact with the narrative.

V této kapitole je vyloženo, jakým způsobem je v románu Jin Ping Mei vylíčena podoba rezidence rodu Ximen, a zda je to dostatečně srozumitelné čtenářům z jiných kultur, žijícím o staletí později. Dochází k závěru, že lze načrtnout přibližný plán obytného domu i zahrady, přestože relevantní údaje v románu nejsou dostačující. Dále si všímá, jakým způsobem podoba rezidence zasahuje do děje románu.
