In der spätmittelalterlichen Monarchie war es durchaus möglich, die schwere Krankheit, den Tod und das Sterben des Königs erfolgreich zu bewältigen. Sehr oft war der Tod eines Königs jedoch ein Krisenmoment, der zu einer erheblichen Fragilisierung der königlichen Regierung oder Dynastie führen konnte. Der Vortrag versuchte, diese Problematik anhand des Fallbeispiels Böhmen im 15. Jahrhundert vorzustellen, wo der Tod des Königs stets einen großen Raum für Machtkämpfe zwischen den Eliten des Hofes und des Landes schuf. Der Vortragende konzentrierte sich auf die letzten Monate oder Wochen eines jeden Herrschers, als er bereits krank war, sowie auf die Zeit unmittelbar nach seinem Tod. Er versuchte, diese Krisenzeit als Beispiel für eine „fragile Herrschaft“ darzustellen.

V pozdně středověké monarchii bylo možné úspěšně zvládnout vážnou nemoc, smrt a umírání krále. Velmi často však smrt panovníka představovala krizový moment, který mohl vést ke značnému rozkladu královské vlády nebo dynastie. Přednáška se pokusila představit tento problém na případové studii Čech v 15. století, kde smrt krále vždy vytvářela velký prostor pro mocenské boje mezi dvorskými a zemskými elitami. Přednášející se zaměřil na poslední měsíce či týdny života každého panovníka, kdy byl již nemocný, a také na období bezprostředně po jeho smrti. Toto krizové období se snažil prezentovat jako příklad "křehké vlády".

In late medieval monarchies, it was quite possible to successfully cope with the serious illness, death and dying of the king. Very often, however, the death of a king was a moment of crisis that could lead to a significant fragilisation of the royal government or dynasty.
