Architektonické principy tektoniky a stereotomie uvedl do architektonické teorie Gottfried Semper, jenž zdůrazňoval jejich spojitost s hmotou a s přirozenými vlastnostmi užívaného materiálu. V polovině 18. století vycházejí texty Marc-Antoine Laugiera (1713-1769) a Carlo Lodoliho (1690-1761). Obě patřily k těm nemnohým studiím o architektuře, které v době osvícenství daly vzniknout zcela novému způsobu teoretizování o architektuře. Můžeme v nich dokonce spatřovat vznik zcela nového rozvažování o architektuře a skutečné počátky architektonické teorie v podobě, jakou známe dnes.

The architectural principles of tectonics and stereotomy were introduced into architectural theory by Gottfried Semper, who emphasized their connection with matter and the natural properties of the material used. Swiss-Hungarian architect and architectural theorist Ákos Moravánszky is currently following up on his legacy by exploring the concept of "Stoffwechsel" (material change). Today, it is clearly the most significant representative of that direction of modern architectural theory, in which we get a tool in our hands that can be used for a newly conceived interpretation and understanding of architectural form in the past and present. However, the way to those two terms can already be found in historical architecture, as can be seen from the example of Italian Renaissance and Baroque architecture. In the middle of the 18th century, the texts of Marc-Antoine Laugier (1713-1769) and Carlo Lodoli (1690-1761) were published. These both were among the few studies of architecture that gave birth to an entirely new way of theorizing about architecture during the Enlightenment. We can even see in them the emergence of a completely new thinking about architecture and the real beginnings of architectural theory in the form we know today. And it is a remarkable fact that also in the art-historical environment of Brno in the past we would have found various ways to incorporate those architectural principles into art-historical analyses.
