Dieser Aufsatz versucht eine vergleichende Interpretation von drei europäischen Projekten der Zwischenkriegszeit, nämlich Thomas G. Masaryks Neues Europa (1918), Karl Anton Rohans „Kulturbund“ (1922) und dessen Zeitschrift European Review (1925-1944) und, als Gegenpol zu diesen Projekten, die gesamteuropäischen Bestrebungen von Richard von Coudenhove Kalergi. Im Gegensatz zu der bisherigen, analytisch unzureichenden Unterscheidung zwischen demokratischen und nicht-demokratischen Ansätzen, die diese Projekte lediglich kontrastieren würde, wählt dieser Aufsatz eine postimperiale Perspektive, die es erlaubt, Grad der Koinzidenz und Differenz sowie eine Beschreibung von Kontinuität und Diskontinuität in Bezug auf die imperialen Zeiten und Techniken. Ziel ist es, sowohl die Interpretation von Masaryks Bestrebungen für ein neues Europa nach 1918 zu verfeinern, und die verschiedenen Transformationen der imperialen und postimperialen Semantiken in den gewählten europäischen Konzepten herauszuarbeiten.

Příspěvek se pokouší o srovnávací výklad tří evropských projektů meziválečného období, konkrétně Nové Evropy Tomáše G. Masaryka (1918), „Kulturbund“ Karla Antona Rohana (1922) a jeho časopisu European Review (1925-1944) a jako protiklad k těmto projektům celoevropské snahy Richarda von Coudenhove Kalergiho. Na rozdíl od předchozího, analyticky nedostatečného rozlišování mezi demokratickým a demokratickým a nedemokratickými projekty, které by tyto projekty pouze stavělo do protikladu, tento esej volí postimperiální perspektivu, která umožňuje lépe uchopit stupně shody a rozdílu, jakož i popisu kontinuity a diskontinuity s ohledem na imperiální dobu a techniky. Jejím cílem je jednak zpřesnit interpretaci Masarykových aspirací na novou Evropu po roce 1918, tak i poukázat na různé proměny imperiálního a postimperiální sémantiky ve vybraných evropských pojmech. v meziválečném období.

This paper attempts a comparative interpretation of three European pro‐ jects of the interwar period, namely Thomas G. Masaryk’s New Europe (1918), Karl Anton Rohan’s ‘Kulturbund’ (1922) and his journal European Review (1925–1944), and, as a contrasting foil to those projects, the panEuropean endeavours of Richard von Coudenhove Kalergi. In contrast to the previous, analytically insufficient distinction between democratic and non-democratic, which would merely contrast these projects, this essay chooses a post-imperial perspective that allows for a better grasp of the degrees of coincidence and difference, as well as for a description of continuity and discontinuity with respect to imperial times and techniques. It aims both to refine the interpretation of Masaryk’s aspirations for a new Europe after 1918 and to point out the various transformations of imperial and postimperial semantics in the chosen European concepts, especially in the interwar period.
