A presente comunicação, inserida no âmbito de reflexões sobre a "tendência geográfica" (Gouveia e Sousa) na obra de Teresa Veiga, concentra-se na narrativa O Senhor d´Além (2021), cuja localização na região algarvia não serve apenas de cenário à história, mas apresenta um forte genius loci e força mitificadora. A reflexão será orientada pelo conceito de topofilia (Yi-Fu Tuan), desenvolvido na contemporaneidade em harmonia com os interesses por temas geográficos e ecológicos nos estudos literários, e pelo conceito de topofrenia (Robert T. Tally Jr.) que corresponde à perceção subjetiva de lugares num espetro de sensações, emoções e sentimentos por vezes ambíguos, cerne de perplexidade, espanto ou estranheza. Sempre que oportuno, esta “topoleitura” de O Senhor d´Além será acompanhada por brevíssimas referências aos autores portugueses, com os quais a obra veiguiana parece (in)conscientemente dialogar.

This paper, which is part of reflections on the ‘geographical tendency’ (Gouveia e Sousa) in Teresa Veiga's work, focuses on the narrative O Senhor d'Além (2021), whose location in the Algarve region not only serves as a setting for the story, but also has a strong genius loci and myth-making power. The reflection will be guided by the concept of topophilia (Yi-Fu Tuan), developed in contemporary times in harmony with the interest in geographical and ecological themes in literary studies, and by the concept of topophrenia (Robert T. Tally Jr.), which corresponds to the subjective perception of places in a spectrum of sensations, emotions and sometimes ambiguous feelings, at the centre of perplexity, astonishment or strangeness.Whenever appropriate, this ‘topo-reading’ of O Senhor d'Além will be accompanied by very brief references to Portuguese authors, with whom Veiga's work seems to (in)consciously dialogue.
