This contribution explores the key methodological issues involved in building an Italian L2 spoken learner corpus. It provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the choices made during this process, acknowledging both the advances and the limitations encountered. The discussion is structured in three main parts: an examination of the process of sample creation, data collection and processing, with a focus on the transcription, together with reflections on the use of new technologies and their ethical implications.
