Ce chapitre examine la distribution des métaphores dans trois chapitres (Vyškov, Střípky [Fragments] et Naděje [Espoir]) du livre Do temnoty [Dans les ténèbres] de Pavel Stehlík, vétéran de l’armée tchèque. Les chapitres ont été sélectionnés à l’aide d’une méthode d’échantillonnage aléatoire. Les métaphores ont été détectées sur la base du sentiment métaphorique, qui reposait sur le consensus de trois linguistes; les résultats ont été traités quantitativement, nous avons examiné non seulement la valeur générale de la métaphorisation du chapitre (ce que nous appelons l’indice métaphorique), mais aussi et surtout l’évolution de la métaphorisation dans le texte. Cet aspect a été saisi à l’aide d’un graphique de moyenne mobile, qui est couramment utilisé, par exemple, dans la visualisation du contrôle de qualité. Nous avons constaté que les trois chapitres sélectionnés étaient traités individuellement en termes d’évolution métaphorique : dans Vyškov, des pics et des creux métaphoriques alternent de manière dramatique, dans Fragments, les fluctuations métaphoriques sont absentes, et dans Espoir, les pics métaphoriques prédominent, concentrés dans la deuxième partie du texte. L’argot militaire peut également être considéré comme l’un des facteurs contribuant à la métaphorisation du texte.

This chapter examines the distribution of metaphors in three chapters (Vyškov, Střípky [Fragments] and Naděje [Hope]) of the book Do temnoty [In the Darkness] by Czech army veteran Pavel Stehlík. The chapters were selected using a random selection method. Metaphors were detected on the basis of metaphorical sentiment, which was based on the consensus of three linguists; the results were processed quantitatively, we examined not only the general value of the chapter's metaphorisation (what we call the metaphorical index), but also and above all the evolution of metaphorisation in the text. This aspect was captured using a moving average graph, which is commonly used, for example, in the visualisation of quality control. We found that the three selected chapters were treated individually in terms of metaphorical development: in Vyškov, metaphorical peaks and troughs alternate dramatically, in Fragments, metaphorical fluctuations are absent, and in Hope, metaphorical peaks predominate, concentrated in the second part of the text. Military slang can also be seen as one of the factors contributing to the metaphorisation of the text.
