This review examines Petr Balcárek’s Byzantium in the Czech Lands (4th–16th Centuries), which explores Byzantine influence on Czech lands. Spanning the foundation of Constantinople to the post-Byzantine era, the book highlights key artifacts and historical interactions through themes of conversion, trade, and diplomacy. While its historiographical introduction offers valuable insights into the marginalization of Byzantine studies, the work sometimes lacks engagement with recent scholarship. Despite these limitations, Balcárek provides a significant resource for understanding Byzantine cultural impact and its role in shaping regional art and identity.
