The social problem addressed in this article is the unemployment of older people. We define older people as people over 50 years old. European societies stand in front of the substantial challenge of ageing societies. The ageing workforce has manifold implications for institutions, public finance, and involved individuals. The crucial policy issue is the employability of older people. While older people are generally less vulnerable to job loss than younger people, they are at greater risk of being long-term unemployed once they become unemployed. When older people reflect this risk (if their chances of finding a new job are scarce), they may be, for example, afraid of changing jobs (OECD, 2024). In this article, we assess the position of people over fifty who became unemployed and the role that active labour market policy tools (namely training) could play in their labour market integration. We concentrate on publicly sponsored training programs that raise people's training levels to match the demands of the labour market. We addressed the question: “What were the effects of standard training programs conducted in Czechia in 2019 on older people?”. We work with administrative data OKPráce of the Czech Employment office about all unemployed people.
