Anotace
V originále
Although school meals are often considered an unimportant part of child’s day, being understood especially as means to keep the child satiated, WHO classifies interventions in the area of school meals as one of double-duty actions, i.e. interventions targeting both sides of the double burden of malnutrition. Proper actions taken in this issue can target poor children, for whom school meal can be the only warm meal of the day, as well as children with obesity, who can profit from the educational aspects of school meals. According to FAO reports and other guidelines from all over the world, school meals should fulfil also the role of education and provide the children with basic knowledge about desirable meal composition or different ways of working with particular food. School meals can also have a huge impact on the environment and economics, since the volume of food used for meal preparation in the whole country is enormous. Hence, school meals should not only follow dietary guidelines but also represent a system aiming for sustainability and diminishing health and social inequities. All the issues above are demonstrated on the current reform of Czech school meals system, which aims to align school meal standards with current dietary guidelines by increasing fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and fish consumption; offering more meat-free meals; and restricting sweetened beverages and ultra-processed foods high in sugar and salt.
