V originále

The gradual weakening of the V4’s role in the EU is being accompanied by the emergence of competing sub-regions in Central Europe, including the Weimar and Slavkov triangles. The text builds on the debate on sub-regional groupings and shelter alliances and addresses the phenomenon of member states of one grouping weakening or boycotting cooperation in order to strengthen another cooperation. The main argument is that states do so not only for the purpose of seeking their belongness but also for reputational reasons that do not allow them to remain in close cooperation with states perceived as reputational risks. However, membership in the new grouping must be driven by a strong and timely theme; otherwise, it is just a ‘talking shop’ doomed to failure.
