The presentation explored the design and implementation of an online course in Legal English for International Commercial Law students. Offered over two semesters at the Law Faculty of Masaryk University, the course combines asynchronous e-learning with five 100-minute synchronous sessions each semester. Even though the course is topic-based, it aims to not only familiarize students with essential legal concepts related to contracts, agency and distribution relations, and corporate matters but mainly to develop communication skills needed for professional contexts. The course covers communication skills for advising, presentations, discussions, meetings, negotiation, and formal correspondence in English. A central challenge of the course was the effective practice of interactive communication in an online environment, which required innovative approaches to task design and engagement strategies. The presentation, therefore, focuses on integrating interactive elements within the course, detailing specific activities and techniques that proved successful. Examples include role-plays, collaborative assignments, and activities designed to replicate real-world scenarios. Drawing on the teacher's and students' reflections, the presenter offered practical insights for educators facing similar challenges in legal language instruction. The lessons learned extend beyond the online setting, providing helpful tips for enhancing interactivity and skill-building in in-person classes as well.
