This work focuses on microbial contamination of central air‑handling systems in residential buildings. As part of the ongoing research project, partial results were presented that address the identification of major groups of microorganisms colonizing different components of air‑handling ducts, the influence of operational conditions on their abundance and diversity, and the assessment of potential risks for indoor air quality. The analyses conducted so far indicate that the most common contaminants include molds and biofilm‑forming bacteria, particularly in areas with higher relative humidity and reduced airflow. The findings contribute to a better understanding of microbial colonization mechanisms and will be used to support the development of effective preventive and remediation measures.
