Vietnamese are the third largest group of migrants in the Czech Republic and the CR is the country with the third largest group of Vietnamese in Europe. This distinctive demographic pattern is deeply anchored in the historical connections between these two nations, both of which were previously socialist states. A series of bilateral agreements fostered an uninterrupted migratory flow, persisting beyond the dissolution of former treaties and the global socialist brotherhood concept. The presence of the Vietnamese community in CZ is a result of the historical ties which created a practice to come to CZ. The migration policies are no longer shaping the presence (but more hinder potential growth). Based on mutisited qualitative data (analysis of migration policies, interviews with migration experts and Vietnamese migrants) collected both in the country and in Vietnam, the paper traces the ways in which the figure of the Vietnamese migrant is constructed against the background of restrictive migration policies and securitization discourse. Through a unique approach combining different types of data and perspectives (both Czech and Vietnamese), we aim to show the ways in which a '(stereo)typical' Vietnamese migrant to/in the CR is constructed. Our presentation will focus on both the history and the present of Vietnamese migratory flows to the Czech Republic, the modes of arrival and their embeddedness in the migration policies of both countries. How do these policies regulate Vietnamese migration to the Czech Republic? What constraints but also opportunities do they offer in both sending and destination countries? Against the backdrop of these macro questions, we trace the individual micro level of migration decision-making and post-migration life of specific migrants. This paper was made possible by the project AspirE (Decision making of aspiring (re)migrants to and within the EU: the case of labour market-leading migrations from Asia, Horizon Europe, 101095289).

Vietnamci představují třetí nejpočetnější skupinu migrantů v České republice a Česká republika je zároveň evropskou zemí s třetí největší vietnamskou komunitou. Tento specifický demografický vzorec je hluboce zakotven v historických vazbách mezi oběma zeměmi, které byly v minulosti socialistickými státy. Série bilaterálních dohod podporovala nepřerušené migrační proudy, jež pokračovaly i po zániku původních smluv a konceptu globální socialistické solidarity. Přítomnost vietnamské komunity v České republice je tedy výsledkem historických vazeb, které vytvořily ustálenou praxi migrace do ČR. Současné migrační politiky již tuto přítomnost zásadně neformují, spíše omezují její potenciální další rozvoj. Na základě multisituovaného kvalitativního výzkumu (analýza migračních politik, rozhovory s migračními experty a vietnamskými migranty), realizovaného jak v České republice, tak ve Vietnamu, článek sleduje, jak je figura vietnamského migranta konstruována v kontextu restriktivních migračních politik a diskurzu sekuritizace. Prostřednictvím jedinečného přístupu kombinujícího různé typy dat a perspektiv (českou i vietnamskou) usilujeme o zachycení způsobů, jimiž je vytvářen obraz „(stereo)typického“ vietnamského migranta do/ v České republice. Prezentace se zaměří jak na historický vývoj, tak na současnost vietnamských migračních proudů do České republiky, na způsoby příchodu migrantů a jejich zasazení do migračních politik obou zemí. Jak tyto politiky regulují vietnamskou migraci do ČR? Jaká omezení, ale i příležitosti vytvářejí v zemi původu i v cílové zemi? Na pozadí těchto makro-otázek sledujeme také individuální mikroúroveň migračního rozhodování a postmigračního života konkrétních migrantů.
