The presentation examined the practical integration of artificial intelligence into higher education, drawing on experience from teaching European Union law to advanced law students. It considered the relationship between the use of AI and the individual phases of the learning process and addressed the risk that excessive reliance on AI might weaken students’ knowledge, skills, understanding, and capacity for independent application. The presentation compared selected generative AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, and evaluated their suitability for creating educational chatbots and specialised assistants. It described the structure of effective instructions, including the definition of the tool’s role, objective, operating rules, prohibitions, output format, tone, and knowledge base. Practical examples included course information assistants, tools supporting the preparation and assessment of seminar papers, examination-preparation chatbots, academic advisers, and assistants for reviewing bachelor’s and master’s theses. Particular attention was paid to the need to prevent AI tools from completing students’ work, providing direct answers, relying on unauthorised external sources, or evaluating academic performance uncritically. The presentation also discussed the use of AI in the production of introductory and instructional videos, including synthetic avatars, voice generation, subtitles, and automated lecture summaries. Finally, it considered the use of artificial intelligence in gamification and in forms of knowledge assessment designed to increase student engagement. Throughout the presentation, emphasis was placed on practical implementation, careful design of instructions, controlled knowledge bases, and the preservation of students’ active role in the learning process.
