TY - JOUR ID - 603644 AU - Podroužková, Lucie PY - 2005 TI - "The Resurrection of the Glory of the Banke": Globalizing the Globe PB - Univerzita Pardubice, Fakulta humanitnich studii CY - Pardubice SN - 8071948160 KW - the Globe theatre KW - Elizabethan theatre N2 - When in 1989 the foundations of the Globe were uncovered, a process began towards preserving it as a heritage site of both national and worldwide significance. Since then Shakespeares home stage has been restored to its original shape and a number of replicas have sprung up all over the world, creating a new wave of a popular interest in the Bard. This talk will explore the process of rebuilding the Globe as well as its present role. It will debate the extent to which the Globe revival functions as a cultural monument and a tourist attraction and how successful it is in its ambition to serve as a contemporary theatre venue which wants to build bridges between the past and present and among cultures.
