Phytophthora nicotianae var. nicotianae could be detected in roots and basal stems of tomato plants artificially inoculated with this pathogen or with a micture of it with Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium ultimum and Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis. Phytophthora infestans was detected in naturally infected tomato fruits and seeds, and in potato tubers inoculated artificially. The detection of pathogens was evaluated by indirect ELISA. To determine positive/negative fresholds in ELISA it is neccessary to define conditions and methods for each pathogen-host system. The control (healthy material, antibodies from sera of unimunized rabbits) had absorbance values lower than 0.25 in system Phytophthora-tomato and Phytophthora-potato tuber. Positive samples had to be at least 2.5 times higher than the control. ER -
