Dieser Aufsatz geht der Frage nach, wie frühe deutschsprachige Tonfilme in der Zeit zwischen 1930 und 1934 in Prag vertrieben, aufgeführt und vom Publikum aufgenommen wurden; im Mittelpunkt des Interesses steht dabei das Phänomen »deutscher Versionen« ausländischer Filme.

The study asks questions as: Why was English language and American culture considered to be disturbing element by local audiences? Was it German language, much more comprehensible to the local public than English, or rather archetypes of German-Austrian popular culture, what made German films more popular than not only American ones, but also than German versions of American films? How could we explain the short-term extreme popularity of American talkies in the year when talkies were shown in Prague for the first time and its decrease in the following years? What kind of American films continued to be hits after 1930?
