TY - CHAP ID - 720914 AU - Zouhar, Jan PY - 2007 TI - On Contemporary Czech Philosophy VL - mimo edice PB - International Federation of Philosophical Societes CY - Riga SN - 9789984624518 KW - Czech Philosophy N2 - The fundamental changes in Czech society after November 1989 have been, and are being, accompanied by a so far unseen interest in philosophical literature and in the study of philosophy. The themes of Czech philosophy are very heterogenous. Interesting results have been presented by Czech philosophers in, above all, the areas of phenomenology, analytical philosophy, moral and political philosophy, and the history of Czech and world philosophy. In this context it is clear that the main task of institutes and departments of philosophy is to communicate to students the most important parts of the philosophical and the spiritual cultural heritage that forms the basis of western civilisation. A no less important task is to provide with a thorough orientation in the philosophical problems of biology and physics and in the methodology of social sciences, with emphasis on the application of the approaches of modern critical rationalism. It is, in this the preparation for critical thinking, that lies the main role of philosophy in the Czech Republic. ER -
