Critical timing in early development of multicellular organisms results in rhythmic segment formation, process regulated by intracellular control of transient oscillatory expression of key nuclear transcription regulators. We analyze the role of transport/processing delay on stability, bifurcation direction, periodic solutions, and the global attractor structure - where particular phase space regions are determined by reaction nonlinearities, and production/decay rates. Theoretical results predict existence of two dynamically distinguished classes of oscillatory transcription regulators.
