V originále
Families raising children, and particularly women as the main care providers, face the challenge of providing care for children especially when they are young and for elderly relatives, having a paid job and also taking responsibility for the household. The traditional family model, in which the mother is responsible for running the household and caring for children, still perpetuates. The role of the man/husband within the family has not changed significantly in the past several years, although nowadays legislation is friendlier for fathers who want to share the childcare responsibilities. The difference in women s work-lifestyle preferences can be a source of inequalities: how women and men use their time and how they manage everyday life. The paper will make use of data offered by two national surveys and also a qualitative study, in order to explore the ways in which people and mothers in particular, combine paid work, childcare and housework.
