High incidence of selenium deficiency in Europe increases the interest in the selenium-containing food- and feed-supplements. We used a long-term exposure of the wild type of Scenedesmus quadricauda to the selenite in order to select a resistant strain suitable for production of biomass enriched by selenomethionine, which can serve as an excellent carrier of high levels of organically bound selenium. In this paper, we present the differences between the wild type and the selected strain in response to the addition of different concentration of selenite to the nutrient media. We also present a dependence of selenium content in the biomass on the selenite concentration in the medium. ER -
