TY - JOUR ID - 744092 AU - Koubková, Božena - Baruš, Vlastimil - Hodová, Iveta - Šimková, Andrea PY - 2007 TI - About generic classification of Raillietnema synodontisi Vassiliades, 1973 (Nematoda: Atractidae) KW - Nematoda, Atractiae, Raillietnema synodontisi, generic classification N2 - To date, only one species of genus Raillietnema Travassos, 1927 from African squakers genus Synodontis - R. synodontisi Vassialiadès, 1973 have been described. Nematode genus Labeonema Puylaert, 1970 is, at present, composed by four species parasitic on African fishes. The general morphology of genera Labeonema and Raillietnema is very similar. The first – having only an anterior ovary, a posterior uterine sac extending well posterior to the vulva and larvae hatch in utero (females viviparous); the second is possesing two ovaries and larvae do not hatch in utero (females ovoviviparous). Based on comparative study of nematodes obtained from Senegal squeakers (Synodontis ocellifer, S. schall, S. nigrita) with the material - paratypes (one male and two females) of R. synodontisi collected by Vassiliadès from the same host (S. ocellifer) and the same territory (Senegal) we came to the conclusion, that female specimens also have anterior ovary only and they can be either ovoviviparous or viviparous which is related to their grow and age. That is why species R. synodontisi transferred to the genus Labeonema as L. synodontisi (Vassilliadès, 1973) n. comb. Detailed redescription, morphology, SEM and molecular analysis this species was carried out. The genus Labeonema now includes five species parasitizing only on African fishes. ER -
