Anotace
V originále
Over the last fifty years the original ideal of professional journalists, independent of formal control and self-regulating its behaviour primarily in its relation to the professional association and codes, has become largely problematic, especially in connection to the expanding dictates of economic and technological rationality. In this sense, the professional socialization of Czech journalists has become even more complicated. Besides latent rather than manifested clashes between older and entering journalistic generation, the entire decade of the 1990s was characterized by more or less unreflected quest for a new professional definition. The result is a marked unsteadiness in journalistic professional self-image. The majority of Czech journalists, in this sense, resist being enclosed into one professional value paradigm, which is similar to their foreign colleagues (Weaver 1998). The only approach which is more distinct is the one connecting the investigator and advocate values, which in principle complies with the dominant liberal professional ideology.
