Abstract
Spatial patterns of demographic and socioeconomic change are still unsettled within the post-socialist cities. The paper aims to depict the different developmental dynamism of particular districts in Brno agglomeration area within the period 1991 - 2001. The tools of factorial ecology will be employed to analyze changes of selected demographic and socio-economic indicators (mainly the census data) and to delimit the zones of dynamism or stagnation. A special attention will be paid to the links between the demographic processes in the zones of the inner city and the development in the suburban areas of the greater Brno. The agglomeration of Brno will be shown as internally heterogeneous area consisting of spatial units with different pace and quality of changes as well as the urban region undergoing the re-centralization processes.
