Cette contribution aimerait rendre honneur à un des grands romans généralistes de Simenon Trois chambres à Manhattan écrit en 1946. Le roman, dont le sujet raconte une simple histoire d’amour reflète la propre expérience de l’auteur tout en ajoutant sa maîtrise de l’écriture. Le roman Maigret à New York a été écrit seulement peu après. La brève comparaison de deux oevres permettra de voir plus clair les motifs subjectifs de l’auteur qui se sont trouvés à l’origine de l‘impulsion créatrice.

Příspěvek se zabývá analýzou dvou románů Georgese Simenona. Psychologického románu Tři pokoje na Manhattanu a detektivního románu Maigret v New Yorku. První příběh vypráví milostný příběh dvou emigrantů a odráží subjektivní pocity autora po jeho příjezdu do USA v roce 1946. Maigret v New Yorku byl napsán nedlouho poté. Krátké srovnání dovoluje odhalit subjektivní motivy, které autora vedly k napsání obou děl.

This paper analyses two books by Georges Simenon – the psychological novel Three Bedrooms in Manhattan and the detective novel Maigret in New York's Underworld. The first describes the love story of two emigrants and reflects the author's subjective feelings after his arrival in the USA in 1946. Maigret in New York's Underworld was written shortly afterwards. A concise comparison uncovers the subjective motives which led the author to write both these books.
