Aufgrund von deutschböhmischer und deutschmährischer Beleltristik etwa aus dem Zeitraum zwischen 1830 - 1940 wird ein breites Spektrum von Bildern vom national "Eigenen" und "Fremden" untersucht. Dieses Spektrum reicht von unterschiedlichen Arten von a- bzw. antinationalen (Moravismus, mährische Realisten) Texten bis zu einer komparativen Analyse offen nationalistischer Erzählwerke. Den Kernpunkt der Monographie macht die Differenzierung scheinbar stereotyper tschechischer Charaktertypen aus, und zwar auch in der sehr scharf deutschnational orientierten Prosa. Gebaut wird dabei auf der These, dass literarische Bilder vom "Fremden" von dem jeweiligen Konzept des "Eigenen" abhängig gemacht werden können.

Na základě krásné literatury vzniklé zhruba mezi lety 1830 a 1940 monografie zkoumá spektrum představ o národnostně "cizím", resp. "vlastním" u německy mluvícího obyvatelsva Čech a Moravy. Toto spektrum sahá historicky a regionálně vzato od textů nacionalitu zpochybňujích nebo negujících (bohemismus/moravismus, moravští realisté) až po nacionálně vyhrocené texty předválečné. Jádrem práce je analýza a především diferenciace zdánlivě stereotypních rysů českých postav. Základním kamenem tohoto zkoumání je přitom sociálně psychologická, semiotická a literárněvědná analýza závislosti literárního znázornění "národnostně cizího" na chápání toho "vlastního".

Based on the German fiction written in Bohemia and Moravia between 1830 and 1940, a wide range of images of the "national other" is examined, including both anational/antinational and pronounced national works of fiction. The main issue is a differentiation of seemingly stereotypical image of the Czechs. The pivotal point of the whole study is that constructions and depictions of "the other" can be seen as derived from the particular image of "our own".
