Il volume é il risultato di un incontro di studi internazionale e interdisciplinare sul tema della narrazione e della sua rappresentazione, con interventi sull’arte dell’antica Roma e specialmente sull’Italia del tardo Medioevo e del primo Rinascimento. Storici dell’arte e studiosi di letteratura si sono confrontati su alcune questioni nodali: il tema della rappresentazione dello spazio e del tempo, l’uso della parola scritta all’interno di strutture figurative e, di converso, l’uso dell’immagine a sostegno o a integrazione di un testo; in una parola, il costante tentativo dell’arte figurativa di rappresentare al di lá dei limiti della propria immobilitá, e, viceversa, il desiderio della letteratura di esprimere in maniera immediata e icastica quanto il discorso letterario non puó che rendere attraverso un racconto prolungato nel tempo.

The book is the result of a meeting of international and interdisciplinary studies on the subject of the narrative and its representation, with speeches on the art of ancient Rome and especially on Italy in the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance. Art historians and literary scholars met to discuss some key issues: the issue of representation of space and time, the use of the word written in figurative structures and, conversely, the use of the image support or integration of a text in a word, the constant attempt to represent the visual arts beyond the limits of its immobility, and, conversely, the desire of the literature to express in an instant as the figurative and literary discourse can not that make using a story a long time.
