TY - CONF ID - 950270 AU - Adam, Martin - Headlandová Kalischová, Irena PY - 2011 TI - A Diachronic View of the Concept of the Dynamic Semantic Scales in the Theory of FSP KW - Dynamic KW - Semantic KW - Scale KW - Mathesius KW - Firbas KW - Svoboda N2 - In the framework of FSP every sentence principally implements one of the so-called dynamic semantic scales, which functionally reflect the distribution of communicative dynamism and operate irrespective of word order. Principally, Firbas distinguishes two types of the dynamic semantic scales: the Presentation Scale, in which a context-independent subject is presented on the scene, and the Quality Scale, where a specifying quality is ascribed to the subject. The conference talk discussed the concept of the dynamic semantic scales from a diachronic point of view, comparing major contributions by Mathesius, Firbas, Svoboda, Chamonikolasová and Adam. Apart from the Prague (Brno) School representatives and more recent followers, the contribution looked at some achievements of somewhat less familiar – yet significant – pioneers in the field of theories of information structure, viz. Henri Weil, Sámuel Brassai, Georg von der Gabelentz and Anton Marty. ER -
