It is a great pleasure for me to introduce Czech Polar Reports, a new journal covering all professional fields of polar science. The scope of the journal involves a wide range of disciplines. It is considered to be an international platform for publication of scientific papers dealing with polar research. Starting a new journal is generally a difficult pursuit, especially in the field that has only limited professional community. However, recent studies performed in polar, alpine and extreme environments have increased in number within last two decades. Moreover, several processes happening in polar regions have become important global issues, especially in the field of Earth climate. There is also increasing interest in studies performed in extreme polar environments that mimick extraterrestrial conditions. Having in mind that polar science represents an important and growing area, we decided to establish a new journal to promote publication opportunities for international scientists working in the field. Today, the first number of Czech Polar Reports is issued. I wish to thank the members of the editorial board, peer reviewers, authors for their enormous help during the period of preparation of the issue. At the same time, I would like to wish the journal prosperous future.
