Anotace
Chalcogenide glass (ChG) is a type of glass that uses one or more chalcogenide elements as a substantial constituent. The modern technological applications of ChG’s are important in the field of optics, computers, and material science. Erbium doped Ga-Ge-Sb-S glasses present radiative emissions from visible to the mid-IR range and are of interest for a variety of applications including biochemical optical sensing, LIDAR and military counter-measures. TOF MS was successfully used to analyze the bulk and nano-layers of various solid materials, e.g. As-S-Se or As-Se glasses [1-3]. Mass spectrometric (MS) study of Er doped Ga5Ge20Sb10S65 glasses has been performed with the aim to synthesize or generate GamGenSboSp+/– clusters and to reveal structural motifs in thin films fabricated by plasma deposition techniques. Formation of clusters in plasma plume for Ga5Ge20Sb10S65 glasses with different levels of erbium (0.05, 0.1, and 0.5 wt.% of Er) using Laser Desorption Ionization (LDI) or Laser Ablation (LA) was studied by Time Of Flight Mass Spectrometry (TOF MS) in positive and negative ion modes. High number of GamGenSboSp+/– singly charged clusters was found, but surprisingly, only four species (Sb3S4+/–, GamGenSboSp+/– (m =1, o = 2, p = 4, 5), Ga3Sb2S7+/–) were common to both ion modes. For the first time, species containing erbium (GaSb2SEr+ and GaS6Er2+) were identified. The results are also confirming the importance of gallium for rare earth bonding in glass. The stoichiometry of totally ~150 GamGenSboSp+/– clusters was determined via isotopic envelope analysis and computer modelling. Proposed structures of the clusters and of the glass was additionally verified by other methods (Raman spectra) [4]. The knowledge of glasses structure can result in a better control, understanding theirs fluorescent properties and inspiration for new material synthesis.
